Question What sort of saw

I am new to scroll sawing an want to know the best machine to get. I have bought two second hand machines and they both have problems.
Also are the vibrating scroll saws worth looking at.
I am cutting wood up to one inch thick and want the best single fase machine I can afford.

Being in the UK, I would give the Diamond saws serious consideration. The other that's readily available on your side of the pond and is a top-notch saw is Hegner. Not knowing your budget, it's tough to give you a better answer. Hopefully a few of our friends from your area will jump in as well.

I'm with Evie. Hegner is the best hands down.

I am with Evie and Tom, I started out with low end saws (2) and ended up with a Hegner, mine is about 11 years old and still running like new. They cost a little more up front but in the long run they are worth it.

I don't know what is available across the pond but if the Hegner is, that would be a great saw. My self I am partial to the Excalibur.

Having worked my way through two saws before getting my Hegner. I would champion my Hegner all the way. If you can afford it, go for it. There have been a couple of good deals on ebay recently if you would be prepared to get a second hand one. Many have come from educational establishments and would be my choice if buying again, now.

Good Luck
