I have been doing scrollsawing for two years on this BM. lots of good advice. I try new projects, Intarsia puzzles fretwork love doing all of them. When I come up with new projects I usually can work through the problem on my own. Not this time see the attachment photos, 3/4" BB motorcycle puzzle. What a headache. I have tried different blades, speed and tensions no luck. HELP If you look at the cut at the fender, the blade wants to cut to the right. I turn the work to steer the blade to follow the line ( it dose what it wants to do ). The blade that I was using is a FD-TC 1, FD-TC 2 FD-SR 1. FD-SR 2. None of them want to follow the line. I know that with puzzles you do not push side to side or feed to hard the blade is not following the line. (is there a different kind of line that I can use that the blade will follow ) I jest of course. If someone can help. jim from Onatrio |

Jim, try 3 or 5 blade, I cut this motorcycle pattern out using FD-UR 5 blade for the bigger one, and a FD-UR 3 for the smaller one, and had no problem. Don't give up it's a cool project, and the kids love them.

As WD said try a #3 blade, I use FDUR #3 or FD Polar #3 as a good around blade. I have found that if the blade tends to wander at will, it usually means the thing is getting blunt. Don't give up yet it does get better/easier. Merlin

Hey Jim - I fully agree with WD - don't give up! Also as WD suggests, try the UR blades - they don't bind as much in the kerf and seem easier to control. Just a wild question - do you use plenty of tape for lubrication between the BB and the pattern. I find that a double or triple layer works better for ply Regarding the pattern - I have a real problem following intricate pattern lines drawn in black ink . my eye seems to confuse the line with the blade and causes me to drift. Because of this I tend to redraw most blacklined patterns to use a very thin red line. Sounds like work i know but it really does help me. Btw . where did you get this pattern from? - its really neat

Hi, Jim. I haven't cut a puzzle in Ply yet, so not much help there. I have cut puzzle's from walnut & cherry though. One thing that is very necessary, that's tight, & cut slow. Naturally, you have more control when you go slow. I alway use a reverse blade too. FD blades are the greatest & you always have to be aware of any blade wanting to wander to the right, because of the way they are cut. I think if you try a different blade, keep it tight & go slow it will help. I could probably use some help sometimes myself. Good Luck Oh, ya, I would like to do one of those, where did you get it? Those motorcycle patterns are in one of the back issues. I don't remember which one but will let you know when I get back in the shop tomorrow. Jan |

For those of you looking for the motorcycle pattern, they are in SSWC summer 2007 issue 27. Pattern by William Berry......he has 3 different patterns in the mag.

To all that posted. Once again a lot of good advice and help. I have tried different blades and things worked out well. The tip about the two or three layer of tap I will also try on my second motorcycle project I am not going to give up, I will defeat it not it defeat me. Thanks lots jim from Ontario ![]() |

Great advice. I would also say go with a slightly bigger blade. 3/4 inch of bb ply is pretty tough cutting compared to a lot of stuff, and the added glue in the ply will fatigue the blade quicker than if just cutting solid wood.
