Default Wish me luck

Well, you guys all know that I am big time green, and I am in awe of the talent that is here on this board. Last weekend I just got the Black and Decker scroll saw that I ordered, and I played with practicing some cuts. I'm off this weekend, so tomorrow morning I hit the shop to make my first attempt at doing something. I have my first practice pattern picked out and printed, my wood ready, and I am ready to hit it. I feel nervous and excited, like a kid the day before Christmas.

I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

Good luck, just go slow to start. And sign and date your first piece and put it on your shop wall. In years to come when you get stuck on a project you can look at this one and see how far you have come.

Good luck David... Just remember to use every ounce of patience you have. I still do on every piece I cut.
Have fun with it though.

Good luck David. I will second Alan's comments. My first project was a Christmas ornament. Still hanging above the work bench.

Dave, in your learning period, don't forget to do some sawing WITHOUT a pattern. Freehand cut a giraffe, a duck, an arrow, anything, to get your mind flowing to your fingertips and make you less fearful should you not have a pattern for a particular job.

and above all, have phun..... Carter

Hi David, congrats on your new saw. and sounds like you have prepared yourself. saw, wood, pattern. and nerves, hhehe. now just have fun. and give yourself a break. this is a learning time. just go for it. and have fun. I promise you . you will go off the line. and wont to dump the whole thing in the trash. but please don't. just finish it no matter what ok. you will see so many mistakes as you are cutting and try to fix them , but please just go on. don't look back till it is all done. you will be so surprised at the end. your going to do great. you will make perfect mistakes. and they will be your testamoneyal . good luck. remmber, we been there done that. your friend Evie

Default It was a great day!

Well, I just tore myself out of my shop a little while ago. This was a blast. I made a few mistakes, took a few mental breaks, but I am soooooooo hooked.

For a first try I am thrilled with the result. I'll try to attach a picture if this works. I still need to clean up the fuzzies and finish the wood, but it's a keeper. I am very pleased considering that I never even turned on a saw before last week.
