Default Ryobi SC160???

I am brand new to the scroll saw and am considering which one to buy. I found the Ryobi Sc160 in great condition used for $99.00. Any opinions on it?
Thanks for your time,
H/Logan

Hi H/Logan. I don't know that saw. I just wonted you to know I am listening. and wonted to bump your post up. to see if you might get some more relpys. $99.00 is a good price for any scrollsaw. so if you just wont to play. and willing to pratice on a cheaper saw. I would say go for it. but I think your smart to ask what you ask. sorry I can't help. but I am your friend Evie

I'm not sure if it comes in both pinless and pin end models but I just wanted to caution that if you start and like it you might be frustrated with being limited to a pin end model if that is the type available to you.

That sounded like jibberish, huh?

Basically, I have a pin end and wish I didn't... something to consider if that is the type of saw it is.

I just bought another Dewalt saw, and use my old one for cutting metal. My point being if I put the 2 side by side they both look great. The only vissable wear is around the blade hole in the table, it still looks new and could be sold to a newby as such. In truth it has several thousand hours on it and is not able to cut a straight line, the blade wobbles side to side.
So when people say "the owner says it only has a couple of hours on it" I do wonder if that is true. Some people on this site have bought used saws and are very happy.
If you go to buy a used saw take some blades and wood and try the saw. If it bangs and the blade holder can move sideways it aint worth buying.
The first saw I bought was around $4oo. and after 1 month it was worn out. I took it back and Bought a Dewalt for $900. and just sighed, it was so nice to use. That same saw now sells for half that.
Just saying buyer beware on used tools.

Alan.

I bought a DeWalt used for $350, stand included. I was a little skeptical of the amount of hours run on it, but I started it up with a blade in it, and it runs up to full speed with no weird vibrations.

I'd run it before buying it to make sure there isn't any travel in the blade or unbalanced vibration. If a bearing is bad it could cost you in the future.

I owned the Ryobi SC160 about 10 years ago. I does use both pin end and pinless blades. I pinless blads are hard to changeif they are thin one and ine had a lot of vibration even with a anti-vibration pad. It was ok to learn on but I really did not like it to much. I would ask if you can try the saw out to see how well it works. if the owner lets you and you like it then go for it. How ever if the owner wont let you in I would back away.
I happened to be on amazon.com and found they a factory recon. Ryobi SC164VS for about $75.00 shipping to my zip code was about $10.00 this might be another way to go. Just a thought
