I need a little help with my patterns not wanting to stick to the wood while cutting. I've tried a glue stick, spray tack, and spray tack over blue masking tape. What can I try next? Thanks in advance. Tom. |

What kind of spray glue are you using? I find the spray glue at office supply and hardware stores work for me. Some brands work better than others, but I usually buy the cheap stuff. The instructions on the side of the can should work. I found a can that had fallen behind some other stuff in my big shop, it is not heeted and hadbeen there for several years and still works. Tom, This is what works for me. I cover the wood with painters tape (blue). Spray the back of the pattern with Dap Spray Adhesive. Let dry to tacky and apply. Denny |

Tom I had that problem too, at first. I sand my wood first. and wipe the wood dust off. then I just spray with 3m45 adhisive spray. on the back of the pattern. and smooth it on the wood. then cut away. I am one of those who don't use tape . when done cutting. just put some mieral spirits on a spoung, and dab it on the pattern. let it set. for a couple minuts. or 5. and take it off, most the time in one piece. then dab alittle more spirits on the spoung, and it will take off the rest of the glue. sand if you wish. and finish. hope this helpes . your friend Evie

Thanks, I will try both and see which works best for me. That problem sure makes it hard to even begin a cut. Tom. |

I wrap the wood with blue painter's tape and then glue the patterns on top of that. Then I wrap the whole thing in clear packaging tape. Helps to lubricate the blade and hold down any corner that sticks out. Diane

I use 3M spray adhesive product # 6065. Like many here, after sanding and dedusting, I wrap the wood with painters tape, spray the pattern with the adhesive and stick it on the tape and then wrap the entire package with packing tape to help lubricate the blade. If you let the spray sit for only a few (15-20) seconds, it sticks to the tape better. If you let it sit for about 1 min, it is less adhesive. If I want to be sure to get the pattern on the wood to utilize the grain as part of the pattern, then I don't use the painters tape and I let the glue set up for about 1 minute before putting the pattern on the wood. To remove it, a cloth dampened with mineral spirits makes the paper translucent and it peels right off. You then have to wipe the piece down with clean cloths dampened with the spirits to remove all the glue residue. Hope all this helps. sawdustus

Why mess with the "tackey" glue. I use the 3M permanent glue from Home Depot. I put down the blue painters tape spray the pattern with permanent glue and slap it down. I dare it to come loose. Your pealing the tape after cutting not the permanent glue and it comes off clean, no mineral spirits and no sanding needed.

Tom, after sanding the wood apply painter's tape, blue or purple. Don't overlap the tape, butt the edges together. You can leave the purple on the wood for weeks and it still comes off easily. Then apply spray adhesive to both the tape and the back of the pattern. I have good luck with Duro spray adhesive.
