Default Puzzle Blades

Hi,

what is the difference between puzzle blades and other blades?

How thick can they cut?

Are they easy to use?

Where can I get them?

Thanks.

I can attest to the quality of FD Puzzle blade. They made all the difference in the world for me. I use them for things that aren't puzzles. One word of caution--they are a very aggressive blade compared to hardware store selections.

Just slow down the saw a little 'til you get used to the action. You should see what they do to the edges of oak--looks like it's been burnished.

And Mike is a good source for the blades and a great guy to talk too. He really appreciates successful stories. My "Homesick Sawing" post in Works in progress was done with FD puzzle blades. (Only two--I got a little tight on the tension with the first one)

"Puzzle" is a rather arbitrary term to describe a blade with a narrow kerf (a term which I can't readily define). They can cut very, very tight turns at high speeds (with practice). They leave much less space between cut puzzle pieces than other 2/0 blades. I personally would not cut wood thicker than 3/8" with them.

I've used Mike's FD Superior Puzzle blades for many years. I've also tried Pegas Puzzle blades, which are also great but not quite as easy to control.

Try them and, with patience, you'll like them.

My experience has been exactly the opposite, so I suggest you try both. Pegas blades are available at Bens Scroll Saw.com, and I always get great service from Ben Fink.
