Smile new scroll saw

hey all, new to the board. i found a dewalt for around 480$ and i like it. i've worked with scrolls saws befor but forgot some of my basics, so heres my questions.

on the description it talked about amps, what are they and what do they do?

strokes per minute, 400-1750 is this good?

stroke length is 3/4, is this good?

depth of cut is 2in, is this good?

thanks for yer help, jess

Amps is the power rating. The more amps the less the saw will slow down when worked hard.
Variable speed is critical for me. I cut all kinds and thickness of wood. and different blades allso like different speeds.
The longer the stroke, the more of the blade comes out of the wood as it moves up and down. This allows the sawdust to escape.
Again it depends on what you cut. I do compound cutting and Intarsia and use my Dewalt on wood up to 1 3/4"s and then switch to a small bandsaw for thicker work.
Hope this helps. I have used a Dewalt for several years and after several thousand hours it plain wore out. I just bought another one. Great saw for what I do.

Ask 10 people and get 11 answers. people find different blades work for them, I am still learning my way with blades. Go to the search button on the heading of this page and try "blades" and you will find lots of advice.

Jess,

I'm new at this also but I went to The Olson Saw Company and they have a good description of which blades are available and their intended purpose.

Have a blessed day!

I agree with GD on this. I think the best thing to do is buy a dozen of each blade and try them on what you intend to cut and see if you like them and they work for you. I just started scroll saw work and I had heard that spiral blades were of little use, but I tried them and actually prefer them on certain cuts over reverse tooth. To each his own and the only way to find YOUR own is to try them, it seems to be working for me...

BTW Welcome to the forum...so much here...have fun...
