Default Brand-new scroll sawer

Hello,
I became fascinated with scrollsawing when visiting the local wood store with my husband (he makes custom cues). I have never worked with wood before, but I love being creative and making things. I have a background in graphic design, as well as having tried all the usual female-type crafts. I just bought a scroll saw, and I am so excited about actually getting started making things. However, I am having a very hard time inserting the blade, and I'm getting frustrated. I bought a new 16-inch Craftsman, and took out the blade that came with it, but now can't get a pinless blade in! Please tell me that it's not unusual to have trouble with this at first, and that I will be able to get past this first step!
Thank you,
Ginny

I've done a lot of sawing with a Craftsman 16" VS. It's tough to figure out what your problem is though. The blade should slip right in between the thumbscrew and set-screw and then you tighten the thumbscrew to hold it. Can you elaborate a little more on what difficulties you're having?

Open up your thumbscrews, top and bottom. Insert the bottom of the blade between the sides of the blade clamp and tighten it. Push down on the top arm and insert the top of the blade in the upper blade holder, tighten it, then adjust tension. Hope this helps.

Default Blade insertion problem

Thanks to all who replied. I guess I was just trying too hard, as I've never done anything like this before. I tried again last night, and finally got it! And so I had my first try at actually cutting -- didn't do too well with the curves, but I guess it takes practice. I think I will really enjoy this once I get better at it. Are there any other female scroll sawers out there? If so, I'd like to know how you got interested in it.
Have a great day!

There are a lot of lady scrollers. Give them time they will read your post soon. Welcome to the forum. Be patient and just play around with the saw, don't worry about what the cutting looks right now. That will improve with time. Soon you will be addicted to sawdust like the rest of us. Just familiarize yourself with the way the saw cuts and relax an have fun.

Hi Ginny, welcome to the group.
My Dad got me hooked on scrolling. I've only had my own saw since last Christmas.
I'm still learning quite a bit and imagine I will continue learning for years to come.

Again, welcome.

Bobbi
