I have a CRAFTSMAN 18" Vs saw, and once again, it's no Dewalt or Hegner, but so far I've logged over 200 hours on it without a problem! Choosing a saw is a matter of discussion between your wallet and your personal preferences. Some are good, some are great, some should stay on the shelf at the store!

I agree with muzzleloader but would add trying to decide how much the tool will be used. Buying the top of the line tool that you will use once in a while or buying a cheapy that gets used every day. If only we had a crystal ball.

Default New saw idea

As Miniweaver wrote i too had a sears craftsman. TI would keep the table level and blade tensioner problems. What i did was figured out what i wanted down to two brands of saws. Then i set a price point of $750.
Then i started bidding on ebay for one of the two saws. I Ended up with a Hegner for 729 dollars. It now has a hour meter on it and it has 103 hours in a year. not much but it purrssssss really nice.

The Dremel 1800 is a great starter saw. The price is right, and it has a little added feature that I thought was nice. The disk sander on the side of it. I still use the disk sander. But I upgraded to Excalabur EX-21. I think they are around $200.

Go to the following website: ToolKing.com - Search Results for scroll saw
You can get a refurbished Dewalt 20" scrollsaw for $359.00- I purchased Delta from them refurbished 3 years ago and have no problems whatsoever. It is a quality scroll saw and wdll worth the extra cost.

You could always try to get a Used saw. I have seen Dewalts for $250 on Craigslist. Just a thought.
