When I was in high school, I was all old country (Italy) and was going to following in my fathers, and my fathers father, and my fathers fathers father foot steps and become a barber. I could shave other peoples face with a straight razor, I could shave the shaving cream off a balloon, but my own face, I looked like i was trying to blood let my self. Never could shave myself that way. Strange,,,,,, it must have been the mirror.. mmmmmmm

The art (yes it is an art) of shaving with a straight razor includes a learning curve in regard to your shaving techniques, lathering with a wonderful soap or cream, stropping the razor correctly (before each shave), and honing your razor (if you choose to). BTW, it's cool to shave with something that most people consider dangerous; and, it's, also, "sexy" stropping a razor.

I look forward each day to going through my shaving routine. It has become a zen thing for me, and many people who have taken this up. and we do have a few women that have taken it up, too.

and, besides all of the above, this whole practice is much, much better for your skin.

* I'm off to Boise to buy a DeWalt scroll saw and a few pieces of some neat exotic wood.

Regards,

Steve

Years and years ago my wife had an uncle that only used a straight razor. He and my father-in-law came to visit us by train. After a bloody attempt to shave on the train, my father-in-law loaned him his battery powered Norelco. He never used a straight razor after that.
