Welcome aborad, Zeek. May I recommend a book that helped a lot of scrollers including myself? It's called the Scroll Saw Workbook by John Nelson and can be perched here on the Fox page. Click here for a link to the book. The exercises and the projects are very good (try the compound cut bow it will blow you a way).

By the way don't forget to get your free issue of this Magazine.

Good luck and happy scrolling.

-Bill

Zeek I am also new to srolling, I also bought a HF saw, but in a few months I bought a better one, bigger (man law#3) I found 1/8" ply at Michaels that works great for newbies. Like myself. Here is a tip for you, when your ready to sand your work dont cut out all the parts that might break, sand the wood then cut out the last parts, use a small torch to burn away the fuzzy saw cuts, burn from the back. next tip. find a piece of plywood and drive nails in it( alot of nails) , set you work on it when staining. and if your thinking of making a million dollars scrolling, you have to spend 2 million ! good luck.

Welcome to the group Zeek. A great place for info, another place for cheep wood is a Saw Mill. Can get drops cheep 1x12 through 1x4 up to 2 feet long by the pickup load if you want. Just a thought.

Welcome Zeek,

Oh and btw it is WAY too late. YOU are addicted now best get used to it Your imagination is the limit as to what you can create. Like has been suggested above there are many books out there to help you out at the beginning but they all have one thing in common. They all tell you to practice having fun making stuff. Something as simple as a name tag, a refrigerator magnet, a kids toy ect pretty soon you will be going I can make that! Welcome to the best addiction you will ever have

Welcome Zeek. Your next step is to build that 1000 sq foot work shop to put that saw in. Hee Hee
