Default Newbie with a Question

Hi. I've been lurking around this board for a couple of weeks and I'm really impressed with quality of this forum and its members. I decided to register and ask a question.
I want to carve some bowls and I have purchased a few bowl turning blanks. Some of the blanks are coated with wax. In order to draw a pattern on the blanks the wax needs to come off. I tried sanding , but as expected that clogs the paper rapidly. It will do the job but I will be going through a lot of sandpaper. Does anyone know an easy way to get the wax off?

Thanks,
Jim

I have never tried this, but they make a product for removing crayons from walls. Crayons being was, it should work. Not sure where to get it, but the commercials I've seen all have "Mom" in them so suspect it would be in with the houlshold cleaning supplies. Sorry, didn't pay as much attention to it as I should have. I guess how well it would work would depend a lot on how thick the wax is.

I keep a putty knife that I've sharpened at about a 30 degree bevel to scrape all sorts of stuff off wood .....might work for wax, too. The steel in a putty knife seems to hold an edge pretty well and can be used like a chisle or a scraper.

I have used brown paper bag and a flat iron to remove wax from carpet it creates some sort of a wicking action and works very well. This may help you also..
