Future of Timberwerks

Hi All

I have been very busy and have not had much time to spend here lately. As of Feburary 1st Timberwerks will be moving to a larger location. The current location does attract a good amount of shoppers but these same shoppers have a hard time spending more than $25.00 on any item. The other draw back of the current location is it is located on the third floor. Another problem is even light woodworking with hand tools causes to much noise to travel down to the second floor shops.

I have learned

That you can't mix a gallery with high end products in with a complex that is 95% gift stores.

People are more concerned about price than quality. To them something that is hand made should cost close to the same as a import carving from China.

If people can have carcing incorporated into furniture they tend to put more value on the object.

Classes are still of interest if kept affordable.

There are many other things I have learned from this,far to many to list.

Timberwerks is moving to a dedicated building and will be a full service shop and showroom. This will be 1,850 sq feet on street level. At this time I am setting up the new location with electric, heat etc...

I will post pic's in the up coming months and show the progress. This week I am looking at a 36' band saw to put in the shop as well. So if anyone in the area needs some resawing done feel free to contact me.

Too bad you have to go thru all that, the place you were looked like really neat spot! But then maybe this will work better! best wishes in your change !!

Good luck with the new location life is a learning experience and if we didnt make some mistakes along the way we would learn nothing. I have to agree with you some people will buy it as long as its cheap. Dosent matter that it will fall apart before they get it home. I used to have that problem I dont anymore because I cater to the people that appreciate my work. If they ask the question 'How long did it take you to complete the carving?' you know as soon as you tell them they will do the math in their head and figure out you hourly rate and if its too much they wont buy it. But then there are the others that hand you the carving and the money and that is the clients you want. Just my two cents worth.
