Default “Sharpening Simplified” by Everett Ellenwood

I’m not sure if this video has been discussed on this board or not but I wanted to give my opinion.

Everett Ellenwood did a great job with this piece. He covers sharpening positions, stones, knives, chisels, gouges, v-tools and micro-tools. He goes into the Sandpaper technique (I read about on this forum) and using a piece of cardboard to strop with. I feel this video is very well put together and a valuable asset for the beginner like myself.

Here is a link to the video, http://www.ellenwoodarts.com/video.htm it can be found at almost every carving store and No I do not own any stock in the company I just liked the video and it has taught me a lot about sharpening.

Just my $0.02

Come to think of it, I got a strop or two in my time also. It didn't do much to sharpen me up though. :P
I looked at the stropping machines, and they are only a motor with an arbor attachment. They have stropping wheels on the arbor. I have a motor and an arbor, where can I purchase the stropping attachments?. The one with the bevels for chisels looks like it would be a good one to have.

Hugh, if you have a lathe you can make one from basswood.

Actually, MDF will also work. I've heard that it is abrasive enough by itself that you don't have to worry about adding compound.
