I'm good about putting on my glove and thumb guard when I open my tool box to carve. Tonight I was using my pocket knife to carve some chain links on the end of a ball and cage I'd been working on while grilling for supper. I had the thumb guard I keep in my pocket but no glove, I managed to stick my knife into my finger. :P Not serious but I had to shave some blood off my cage. : Just goes to show, those accidents can happen any time. That's why I keep bandaids in my wallet. Oh well, mikeg

Whittling small items is one of the best ways I know to realease the red stuff. It will take awhile, but you'll eventualy get the hang of where to keep you fingers and how bit a cut to take (or so they tell me, I'm still learning (I hope).

I bought a second thumb guard. I keep my Case small congress in it and keep that in my pocket. I bought a bunch of 1x1x6' pieces of basswood from ebay. I keep a couple of pieces in my desk, some more in my backpack, and a couple in my car. I figure that way I always have access to some wood if I'm stuck somewhere. ![]() So far I've done a chain, and a ball in a cage with a couple of chain links on the end. Usually worked on them at lunch if the weather's not good for a walk or if I'm outside by myself grilling. My biggest concern is to make sure I don't close the knife on myself. I did it once as a kid and still have the scar. It's not a major concern, just something I try to stay aware of. mikeg

I have a 1 inche long gash that happened last Friday. To late for the local doctors to stitch up becase they don't take patients after 4 pm. Anyways, Flu has hit locally and it was a 4 hour wait at the ER. So my son is a paramedic and he superglued it together and put Sterie strips and a fingerguard on it and said, 2 weeks before I take it off. Yuper, Just one last cut after the glove came off. Will I ever learn. To my Darling little bride,, 'Do as I say and not as I do'. Save a lot of bleeding for sure.
