I'm pretty new at carving, so this may be a dumb question...have you all developed calluses on the pads of your thumbs and fingers? I've definitely noticed new calluses forming on my fingers, and I was just wondering if this is weird. It's not really uncomfortable, I just wondered if this means I have poor technique or something.

My calluses are so thick that the knife sometimes doesnt penetrate them, and that is a fact. Colin |

Terrific callouses at base of third and middle fingers of right hand and incredible one on outside heel (?) of right hand. For unknown reason, on last Santa, something moved and I was using different spot on heel of right hand and I missed that precious callous. Result was a really nasty blister that's never going to heal. Think my technique needs something? |

I'm getting callouses on my fingers from typing; does that count? I guess I'm not getting enough time in carving becaues I don't get calluses, I get blisters! Bob D.

I have found that the Foredom with an aggressive bit will remove calluses in a hurry :P Blisters too! Bob

Bob -16 years ago, before I had time to develop a callous, I bought a nice, big Foredom......tried to use it twice....learned it removes SHIRTS. Never tried it again.

I'm SURE there is a story to go with that!!! I'm just learning to use the foredom--i kinda like how it 'kicks' a little bit when you fire it up... Bob
