Default Do yopu get in a hurry to finish?

It seems like I am always in a hurry to finish a carving and after it is done, I look at it and ask, why didn't I take more time with the paint or protectant coat or cut the detail better.
My last carving I decided to use wadded up brown paper sack and smooth out the paint and little more/better than what it was. Actually, it is like sanding but without the sanding marks. Seems to help it out a little.

All the time Kenny. I'm always pressed to get an hour of carving in everyday which defeats the purpose of carving for relaxation but the idea is to get it finnished. What I found works is when I'm finnishing the carving I then go layout my plans for the next carving. That way I'm painting and carving whichever suits my mood. A lousy finnishing job defeats the purpose and for me painting is harder than carving. I know the carving is done when I show it and someone lays claim to it.

That's why I keep several, in different stages of completeion, going at the same time. Helps kill the urge to hurry and finish, plus after one sits for a couple days you usually see something else that needs doing on a carving you thought was done.

Ya know, I often look at some of my pieces that are supposed to be completed except for the finishing and think they need just a little bit more. However, to my dismay, I find those little fixes can sometimes be not so good. I guess I should go ahead and put the finish on them so that they would be really finished.

Ed, I like your idea of have several pieces at different stages to fit whatever mood I'm in at the time.
