Default The article by Daniel and Ruth Johnson

Each of the times I have gone thru the spring issue I have wondered how Daniel and Ruth measured one ounce of fabric die.
Is it something like the dry die Rit sells or is it a liquid die.
How would you convert that to teaspoons or tablespoons?
Which die do you use?
I really like the article and the tutorial.

Thanks

That is a very good set of questions.

If it's liquid, one ounce equals 30 cc. 1 teaspoon is 5 cc, a tablespoon is 15 cc. That's assuming you use measuring spoons. So, one ounce is 6 teaspoons or 2 tablespoons.

If you have the dry packet of dye, mix it as specified, then do the measurements as above.

Does that help?

Jan

Yes, Rit dye comes as a liquid and a powder. Daniel and Ruth prefer the liquid because it's easier to mix and thin. The power works fine if you have the agitation of a washer to mix it up, but if you are mixing it in small quantities, it clumps up like powdered baby formula. I have seen the liquid at Wal-Mart, Joanne Fabrics, and Michaels.

You're welcome, Stephen. You might want to reprint that because I made a typo in the first answer. I amended it so it's now correct.
