OK Wood Dog... It looks like you used 1/2" thick wood, with the biggest part of the bowl measuring around 4". Also looks like you set the scroll saw table to 20°. Am I close?

Your close Rick, it is 3/4 at 20° left tilt, cutting cw, and yes the biggest part measures about 4"
One of my big boo boo's was cutting the first cut at 90° on the outside, so I had this fat top. I recut it at the 20° to match......wasn't thinking. My bad!

Rick would love to see your bowl wips and/or when finished. You know how we love pictures around here.

Come on Sally, when are you starting yours, don't leave me hanging as the only bowl newbie around here.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I was sooooooo close. I knew it looked like 3/4" wood, but nooooooo I had to say 1/2"!!!

Sorry Wood Dog I'm not much of a bowl maker, although I am tempted to make the un-makable bowl just for kicks. Only problem, I don't have any 3/8" thick wood. And it's raining again!

I'm more of a quarter flipper maker kind of guy.

I suppose you didn't use a pattern and went with the concentric ring theory?

Cool Beta Bowl Pattern Maker Program

This is a screen shot of my Beta Bowl Pattern Maker Program. The user only needs to enter the desired bowl angle, wood thickness and base (bottom) diameter. I forgot I had two versions of this program built. The version shown prints the pattern as soon as you hit the calculate button. It's only math, but it sure saves a lot of time with the calculator and compass!

Right click on the picture for an enlarged photo.

Rick, could you adapt your formula so if you know the wood thickness and ring width, it will give you the cutting angle?

Wow Rick, that would be a really cool program! I love the pattern calculator! Sure saves me a lot of headaches lololol.

WD you are doing a great job on your bowl........reading all these posts, it makes it pretty confusing.

No Rick, I did not use the concentric ring theory , I don't even know what that is. I used 50% print out of Carole's pattern in SSWC issue 37.
My bowl is rough sanded on the outside, finished sanded (maybe) on the inside, and is in the press getting it's little bottom glued.
I made a few oops, but will see how it comes out, when I do the finish sanding.
Christina its not totally confusing...yet, but I'm sure this is one of Carole's easier bowls to make. Jump right in and try one, its fun.
Did I read Rick wrote another program.............
