Carol I found a glaring error in your new book. Maybe I missed it but I found no mention on who did the photography for you. The pictures are so good that they just bring each and every page to life. What a book, you should be very very proud of it. Can't wait for the next one.

Scott, you scared the life out of me! I thought I had done something really bad, then I read your nice comments and started breathing again. The photos of the bowls for the cover and for each project were done by someone on the Fox Chapel staff, and I was very impressed with how artistic they were. All the rest were done by my partner, Joe, and by me. Since I work in a community shop, we had to go down off hours when the shop was quiet so we could take the pictures as I made the projects. We used my little Canon S410, a 4 megapixel camera, set to the largest file size it could take, mounted on an inexpensive tripod. Fortunately, there's plenty of fluorescent ceiling lighting, so we didn't need to bring down auxiliary lights. I chose the cleanest work surfaces I could find, and we tried to get the clearest shots we could. After each session, we'd come home, upload the shots, and hope they came out OK. I'm glad you like pictures. We really tried hard to make them as clear as possible and anticipate where something was likely to be confusing. The staff at Fox Chapel did a wonderful job with the layout, turning a manuscript and some pictures into a real book, but we tried to give them good material to work with. Did you try to scare me on purpose? Enjoy the book and make beautiful bowls! |
