Hi Carole, I am enjoying your new book Wooden Bowls from the Scroll Saw. I do have a question about Flexible Pad Sanders, as in where do you get them? I can't seem to find a supplier of what you are describing in the book. Thanks. Chris

Hi Chris, Glad you're enjoying the book. Klingspor's Woodworking Shop is the best place I've found to get them--I have a link to them on my blog. Unfortunately, their menu is not user friendly, as the pads are found under lathe equipment. If you enter "flexi-pads" into the search box, it will take you to the right place. The best one to start with is the non-tapered 2", regular firmness. I found that the tapered ones did not hold up as well. Get an assortment of grits, from 60 to 320 in the 10-pack size. Other suppliers sell pads you can attach to the flexi-pad which extends its life. I think Woodcraft sells them, but that's something you can consider later. Woodcraft also sells something that looks like the flexi-pad but is about three times the price, and I haven't had a chance to look at it to see if it's really a better tool. Let me know if you have any other questions. Always glad to help. |

Thanks Carole, I will take a look. One last question, in your book you mention a lumberyard. Can you tell me which one you go to? I am having a devil of a time finding local suppliers. Thanks. Chris

Try Condon's. They have a large yard in Stormville, which should be near you. It's at 55 South Greenhaven Road. I don't have a number for that yard, but you should be able to get it. That location does not have exotics, and is more commercial, but you may be able to do well there. Their store in White Plains is where I shop--they have a terrific pile of "shorts" and have been very receptive to my bowl needs.
