Sorry the Dremel Scroll Saw's have been retired and are no longer available!

My Dremel Scroll Saw, with stand cost $100. Found it on Craigslist. I am quite happy with it. You might want to check one out.

See article: Dremel Scroll Saw Review - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts

Sold on-line here: No longer available!

Rick,
your link says "discontinued"...Perhaps that is why it is so inexpensive.

My vote in that range is the Hitachi which can be had at Lowes. Hitachi at Lowe's: 1.6-Amp Variable Speed Scroll Saw. I had one, gave it to my son when I got a deal on a used Dewalt. Sears sold the same saw with their colors for awhile. I bought one off Craig's list for $75 as a backup. Pat

For that amount of money, it is probably impossible to beat the Hitachi. I have one about 14 months old and have beat it to death and back several times.

Biggest thing about the CW 40 is it works so much better with quality blades than hardware store blades. Flying Dutchman is great, but a high quality Olson, or Pegas are also good blades. FD Penquins are good for starters, then you can move to something more aggressive.

I agree with the above, in that price range, people seem very happy with their Hitachi saws.

I have had an Hitachi since they were introduced here in the states. While I have not had a Dewalt or one of the more expensive saws I have had several of the other cheaper saws and for a general workhorse for most things the Hitacho has done me right. I would recommend it for most folks just starting out. It will give you reliable good service at a reasonable price.

I bought a Hitachi CW40 from Lowe's about two weeks ago and am basically quite pleased with it. The only issue I have is it takes about 2 seconds after switching it on before the machine actually starts. Is this normal? I supect the issue is twith the speed controll.

Two seconds would be an eternity on my CW40, but it does have a lag for about 1/10 of a second or so. Coming from a Delta user this was a little worry for me in the beginning. I think some saws have capacitor start motors and the cap gets them up and running instantly, where the CW40 does not.

Tell the truth, since I put a foot switch on it, I haven't noticed it. Just get my hands all set, step on the switch and by the time my eyes get focused real good, the blade is moving.
