Default Question for Gary MacKay

Hi All,
I just got the book by Gary MacKay "Box Making projects for the scroll saw". I am attempting to make the jewelry chest for my daughter. I had a question with regard to the drawer pulls. In the book it says to adhere the pattern to the stock, tilt the saw table 10 deg to the right and cut out the pulls in the cut direction shown. Maybe I am missing it, but I do not see any cut directions on the pattern.

Any insights or info would be appreciated.

What a fun book.

Thanks.

Chris

Default corrected drawer pull diagram

I had the same problem when the book first came out in 2006 and wrote to Fox Chapel. Peg Couch was kind enough to send me the corrected page. I scanned in the relevant material, and am attaching it to this response. It's a really neat book, and once you've mastered the basics, it's easy to move on to your own designs.

Hope this helps.

Carole

I am in the Hudson Valley (Newburgh).

Thanks.

Glad to help, Chris. I am downcounty from you a bit, in Somers, about 30 miles north of White Plains. I've been scrolling for about 3 years, and have yet to meet another scroller in this area--no clubs or anything to bring folks together. Maybe we can get something going . . . .

All you New Yorkers are always welcome to visit us on Long Island. You should certainly come down for our annual Woodworking Show that will be in November this year.

Thanks Rolf,
I will keep my eyes open for further info about the show.

Carole,
I think there are a few scrollers around us. I know there is one in Montgomery (King I did not forget you ) and I believe there is one in Peekskill.

We should definitely see what we could do to get something going.

Talk to you soon.

Chris

Thanks Rolf and Chris,

No one in my shop (community wood shop) does anything interesting with the scroll saw except me. It gets very lonely sometimes. It should be fun to go to the LI Woodworking Show in November and be with people who talk the same language. It would be nice if we can find enough people to get a Lower Hudson Valley scrollsaw club going. I love seeing what other people are doing.

Hi Chris,

I am glad that your drawer pull question got answered. The arrows for cut direction were not printed when the book first came out.
