Default Question for Paul Meisel

I enjoyed your article, Festive Silhouettes Illuminate Your Home, in the Holiday 2008 issue. Is there a specific reason why you used that particular votive candle holder? Does it work best with the project or was it just a matter of personal choice?

Hi DMS,
I checked in with Paul. He's really busy now, so he asked me to relay his response on to you.

I specified this votive candle cup primarily because it is a standard item carried in our catalog and therefore readily available to anyone. A number of years ago I specified flat bottom votive cups and called out a 2” diameter by 1/2" deep hole in the base. Some of my customers had trouble locating a source for these candle cups. With the stem style votive cups I used in this project, I know they will fit perfectly in the 7/8” diameter hole in the base.. If you have access to other types of votive cups that are the same general size, by all means modify the hole pattern in the base to accommodate what you have. As a final thought: I prefer the clear glass over the colored glass because more light can shine through.
