| Question For Gary MacKay Regarding: ScrollSaw Magazine Issue 32 Fall
'Autumn Leaves Coasters'
First and foremost I would like to compliment you on your nice coasters. I love the idea that you used leaves from your area. I'd like to use Cottonwood leaves from a wash near my home.
Step 1 You say with the right side of the table tilted down to the correct angle, cut counter-clockwise around the pattern with a #2/0 blade.
My scroll saw table only tilts to the left would it work if I cut clock-wise instead would this work? If not can you please explain? Or tell me how I could use the left side of my scroll saw table?
I'd love to make these coasters they are so nice and would make wonderful gifts for family and friends.
Sincerely,
KathyRo |

| SSWC 32: Autumn Leaves Coasters that thread touches on the cutting of them.As for the clockwise/counterclockwise cutting and all, but yes, if your saw only tilts down left side, you can still make the coasters without any problems, just do a dry run in your mind before you cut , so you understand which way you must go to make to make your intended piece fit down into its intended place. Do a test cut on some material before doing the actual thing, as the degree of bevel will vary slightly, Gary gave a deghree that worked for him, but its not necessarily the same degree you may need. The inlays are fairly easy once you understand choosing the right direction to cut each time, and correct angle to set your table. Ooops, Im not Gary, but I tried helping you in the meantime.

| KathyRo,
Yes, you can make these coasters if your scroll saw table only tilts to the left. You just need to cut in the opposite direction.. You should take some scrap 1/4" thick wood to make practice cuts until you get a good fit.

| Thank you, Gary for your prompt reply. Yours and Dale's recommendation of using some practice pieces first is a good one. I'm getting ready to do a practice inlay piece from John Nelsons 'Scroll Saw Workbook' It will be a good introduction into wood inlay and give me some good practice before I do your beautiful coasters. My hubby wants to work with me on your project--so hopefully two heads will be better than one.
Thanks, again for your help
