Smile Hawk G4

I am thinking about getting a Hawk G4. I'd like to get some feed back about this saw. I have been scrolling for several years. I have a dewalt now that been real good but its on its last legs. I like the longer depth on the hawk. also I hear it has very little vibration.

Thanks for any advise anyone can give me.

Default Hawk G4

I have a G4 and my old Hawk 26 is my back up saw. If properly set up there is virtually no vibration. The secret is not so much being level, but to make sure the weight is evenly distributed on all 4 feet. As a matter of fact, I have my G4 on quite an angle due to a back problem I have. Mechanically the Hawks are very good. I've never had a problem with the saws them selves, but minor problems with blade holders, etc. which rbi (Hawk) remedied at no charge and very promptly.

The Spring 2008 magazine issue has a review of the G4. If you go here and scroll down to the bottom of the page there's a pdf version you can read.

Default hawk g4

I have a Hawk G-4 and love it. It is vibration free as far as I can tell. Mine is used on a concrete floor with a foot pedal and coins and small cutoffs do not jiggle their way off the table the way they do on my delta. I think that it would be even more vibrationless, if that is possible, if I put some carpet padding under the legs. The blade holders could be a little better. You have to get the blade well centered if you want it to hold well, especially if you like them as tight as I do. I love the ability to top feed although I mostly bottom feed since the upper arm provides a lot of room for an 8x10 piece to be bottom fed. By the way, I recommend that you get the upgrade kit and the foot pedal. They make life so much easier. I also recommend that you get the horizontal leg braces (supports for a shelf you can add) since they stiffen the base considerably. The last time I spoke to them, Hawk told me that they no longer do shows because they can keep the price down by about $100 that way. Call their toll free number @ 1-800-487-2623 or see them online at www.hawkwoodworkingtools.com
They are really very helpful.

I am very pleased with my G4.
They have made few changes to it since I bought mine as they are constantly trying to tweak and improve the saw.

I recently got a G4 and have been quite pleased with how it saws. I had some minor tweaking to do. On me and how I do things and how the G4 does it but have been very pleased overall on how it works. I had a minor problem in shipping and Customer Service overnighted me the part. I like the deep throat as I have some ambitious plans in the future and will need the depth.
I don't think you can go wrong.

I bought a used Hawk G4 before Christmas and can say that this one is so much better than a previous one I tried. It is like driving a luxury car. I had a Hawk 220vs that I sold to subsidize my G4 purchase. My 220 worked very well, but not as smooth as the G4. I have used the top feed feature a couple of times and really like it for feeding the really small blades from the top.

Good luck in your search for the "perfect saw for you".

I have had a G4 for about nine months now and love it. I got to give Rolf credit for giving me some good advise.
