When ordering eyes from a taxidermy place is the diameter called out by iris diameter or eye socket size? I keep getting the wrong size eyes. I always thought if you have a 14mm socket you order a 14mm eye. I suspect that when I order they are being shipped by iris diameter. I am new to fish carving and would like to know where I cn getthe right size eyes.

Don't know much about fish eyes, but bird eyes are measured by the outside diameter, in millimeters (mm). There are 25.4 mm per inch. The eyes have a plus or minus (+/-) tolerance, so there may be some variation even when a bunch are ordered at the same time. Try the WASCO web site, they sell eyes and should have some info on how to order them at the site.
