Default Finally!! Finished carving a stick :)

I finally finished the Tulip poplar walking stick that I have been working on for a few months. I have photos in two albums of the details:
http://www.picturetrail.com/pyrogite/651915
The first album has most of the carvings and pics in progress, the second album has finished photos and closeups of the woodburned poprtraits:

Here are two pics of one of the many carvings on the stick:

I am still putting the varathane finish on, and then it will be DONE!!

Outstanding Job! The burning/carving combination came together beautifully. You are definitely a master of either art. It looks like a several year project!

Thanks everyone!
I thought I'd never finish that stick! It is the most detailed carving that I have ever done. I really enjoyed working on it because I had to carve a whole bunch of animals that I have never carved before. The experience made it all worth it.
Now I just have to talk myself into giving it up I get way too attached to my carvings! 8)
Oh well, on to other carvings! I still have at least 3 more sticks to carve this year, and I'm hoping to do 6 or 7. We'll see how that goes.

8) 8) *WOW!! *That's the first thing out of my mouth when I looked at your site at the carving sticks you have done. *Were these commissioned pieces? *What gave you the ideas behind your sticks? *Beautiful work. *One day I hope to be half as good. *Keep up the beautiful work. *

Thanks Makenchips and EEzebra!
All of the photos on those two albums (posted above) are the same stick. It was commissioned by a good friend for a friend of hers. All of the different things on the stick were requested.
Here is a list of what is on it:
Jumping bass on top
4 portraits of his family
a wild hog,
a Brahma bull,
Wild turkey,
jumping bass relief
deer
rabbit
snake
lizard
turtle
gator
2 frogs
some decorative borders,
and his name.

So for this stick, it was all requested and I had to figure out how to get it done
Most of the sticks I carve are up to me how I do them, with maybe one or two requests for a certain carving or burning.
Actually, most of the sticks I have carved have been surprize gifts for friends and family.
I'll be working on a Schipperke (dog breed) stick that I started last year, it needs to be finished by June. Then I have to start a mermaid stick. Both commissioned.
I'm hoping to learn to carve MUCH faster soon

Excellent work Pyrogite! You have an great talent. Out of curiosity, do you work with power and/or hand tools for your carvings?
