I am currently carving a Rainbow Trout that is about 17 inches long. The plan I am using calls for FE135 eyes??? I was going to buy the eyes locally rather than ordering them (I'm up here in Canada, eh?) but I don't know what size they are. Does anyone know?? ???

Chris, the reference I have used for a 15' rainbow showed an 8mm eye. You are doing 17' but I think I'd hold with the 8mm size, or maybe stretch that to a 9mm. 10mm would be a bit oversize, in my opinion. If you have a drafters hole guide (nice to have for doing eyes) you can draw, in pencil, a circle where you want the eye, in the size you are thinking of, to see how it will look. If you don't like that size, erase the circle and draw in one size up or down, till you find one that pleases you. You can get those drafters guides at book stores, college book stores or art supply stores, or office supplies that handle drafting tools. Hope this helps. Al |

Thanks for the info. Al. The in the store gave me some 7mm eyes but they looked too small so I'm sure the 8 or 9 mm will look a lot better. I've got those old drafters guides packed away in a box from before these computers took over drafting. I never thought of using them for sizing up eyes. I'll have to dig them out. Thanks again Al.

It might be more fun to catch a trout and measure his eyes.

Hey, you've got a point there Ed. Although, I've never had much luck catching something that big, it might take me a while There's nothing wrong with that though!!

You don't have to catch the trout! Just measure their eyes as they swim by!! : |
