Can some one tell me what A rotory de-fuzzer is, and where can I fine one.

I am not completely sure I know what you are asking, but think you are asking about the green mesh material that is used to wash dishes etc, a small piece is cut out and mounted on a Dremel..I understand this works to get rid of fuzz!

Yes that's the stuff. I recently bought 2 de-fuzzers for my dremel. I paid about $6.00 for the pair and they lasted for 1 carving each. I went out after that and found the Scotch brite pads and bought a couple of them. I paid about $4.00 for a pair and I can cut about 20-30 de-fuzzers out of it. I haven't used them yet but they are the same stuff.

Check the paint or abrasives section of your local Home Depot (or Canadian Tire if you're up here). Use them on a low speed and they'll clean up your carving really nice

The green may have soap in it so test with water first. I found the particals stuck in the wood. The red or brown may be courser depending on your needs.

Can one of you wise gentelman tell me how to mount the scotch brite pad on the dremel tool? Do you use the same spindle that mounts the cutoff disks and sandpaper disks?

Like I said, I haven't actually used the scotch brite pad yet, but I was just going to mount it to the spindle mount for the cut-off wheel with the little screw in the end.

I am wondering how well it will work because the screw is quite small. I think I may have to use a couple of small washers so that it will grab the pad and keep it spinning.

If you try it, let me know how it works for you.

What I did was to epoxy the square of the scrubber to a 3/4' cutting disk and then screwing that to the mandrel. It worked.

Don't use any of the color Scotch bright pads, they leave the color on your work. Use the same mandrel you use for the cut-off wheels. I made two 1/4' washers out of aluminum flashing to hold the pads. I mounted two or more disk to do the job with. Dont run at a high speed or you will burn the wood or snag the disk on a sharp part of the carving.

Also, stay away from the cheap imitations of Scotch-brite; they break down and leave marks. I didn't use any washers when I mounted the de-fuzzer on my Dremel mandrel.

Hi guys,
I've used burgandy, green, and white Scotchbrite to 'defuzz' and/or polish carvings for about 6 years. The white is softer and I mostly use it for polishing smoother carvings or to 'buff' or burnish a finish. I've never had to use washers to keep the little pads from spinning--the screw holds them in place well.

When I first bought one of the little round pads--and it didn't last very long, I started cutting out little rounds of Scotchbrite---VERY TIME CONSUMING!!! Now I just cut little squares of it (about 1 1/4 ' square) and the first few seconds of using it rounds off the corners for me. Be sure to wear eye protection and even a mask because those little fibers are thrown back at you.

I've never had any trouble with the Scotchbrite brand of filament pads displacing color on my carvings. Some of the cheaper 'imitation' stuff did so I avoid it now (it didn't last as long anyway.)
