David - your cardinal is VERY beautiful. Where can we see more of your work? Obviously you're a master at birds ... do you carve other things ? Tell us about yourself, please.
................
My only suggestion is to pack him very, very carefully when you ship him to me

David,

Excellent job. How did you do the leaves?

Nacy's right, tell us about yourself and what else you've carved. I carve birds as well and I'm always looking for someone to share ideas and tips with.

Chris

Hi,

I do have a website. The address is: http://www.jaminmark.com/das/gallery.html

I have not updated it in a while so some of my latest carvings are not on it. I am also a member of a bird carving forum where I have a gallery with some of my more recent pieces.
This is a really good forum for bird carvers, there is a lot of good descussion
on birdcarving. Here *is the address for the forum and my gallery:
(you will have to register before getting in)

Bird Carvers Online Homepage- http://forum.wildfowlart.com

My gallery- http://forum.wildfowlart.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1009

I began carving in 2001 after finding a copy of the book 'How to Carve Wildfowl' by Roger Schroeder at the library. Mainly I carve songbirds, but I also do waterfowl and birds of prey. I have been fortunate to receive a great deal of assistance from two excelant carvers: Dan Williams and Riley Monroe.

The leaves are made out of copper foil.

David

Excellent work, Dave! The texturing around the face and on the breast are really well done.

Dave, really nice work of art you crafted. After seeing yours, I won't post mine. I was at the Ward Museum a few years ago. A fellow told me that he made leaves by soaking cutouts of leaves made from brown paper bags in crazy glue and putting them in the microwave oven for a few seconds to dry. The curled up and looked just like real leaves. Your leave look real too. I was really impressed with all the carvings and exhibits at the Ward museum. Stop in and see it if you ever get down that way. I could have spent weeks in there just looking and talking to all the friendly people there.
