Hi, I have asked many friends to look for carved wooden bird door knockers--the kind that is placed on a door frame and has a string that activates the birds beak to hit the base. Where do I find these? Is there an Internet site or private wood carver who makes them? Miles3 |

Probably lots of carvers make them, haven't seen one in years however...don't think they would be too difficult to make... |

If your search proves fruitless, Tangerman in his 'The Big Book of Whittling and Woodcarving' has instructions for several string operated toys which could be modified without too much trouble.

Hi Miles; I see some one else has posted a site for a scrollsaw pattern for a Woodpecker Knocker,. Here's a pic of one carved that you might be interested in. Also a pattern that can be used for the carved woodpecker can be found at http://porchpatterns.tripod.com/woodpecker.html It's a pattern by Don Burgdorf , you might have seen his patterns in Chip Chats. There are quite a few other patterns by him at this site all free downloads. If there is any other questions just ask. OG Quote:
