trying to put soft feathers on birds

[Help_Me]

OK! I outline my groups with a flame shape bit.
How do I now round down ruff edges to make them smooth
looking.Also i'm having trouble with the lines in the feathers
to look real and soft. Please help!! New to this wonderful
hobby but getting > I also use hand tools. Not to shabby
at the whittling thing.

I don't have any carving classes were I live.Nor the time.
I work two jobs and only get to carve on saturdays.

I cant give you any better help than Lori, but I noticed you mentioned a flame shaped cutter to shape your feathers. You might want to try a bull nose cutter, or a ball for the smaller feathers.I like the good diamonds, or a carbide round nose. Try to stay away from cutting a sharp edge as much as possible. Slow down your bit, and move across the edge of the feather carefully, trying to disturb the wood as little as possible. I have a demonstration on my web page.
