I have lots of information on the sizes for the Puffin if you need them. A friend had a mature bird to take the measurements from . I have carved them before, and found that most of the facts on the puffin make them too large. They are a small bird.

Thanks, Hugh, I'll get back to you after the Thanksgiving holiday...going out of town. I'm working from a very good pattern, but this is my first bird.....maybe should have picked an easier bird (more familiar?). Most of the water birds around here are horizontal, even when they stand, not that vertical human-stance of the puffin...hehehe.

Just getting ready to paint another Saw_Whet, thought some of you might be interested to see what work goes into the birds, before they are painted. It is ready to paint, just needs to be cleaned up and sealed. Getting the dust off them is a little bit of a chore. If you go to this URL, and scroll to the bottom of the page, the owl should be there. http://www.feathersinwood.com/display-page.htm

Ahhhhhhhhh, Hugh.
My goodness !! I'm getting too old for this.
That owl caused heart palpations.

Aren't you afraid to paint him?

No, this owl is pretty straight forward, its the ones with the fancy feather patterns that scare me. I struggle with the painting, colours and feather patterns are difficult for me. * :-[ http://www.feathersinwood.com/display-page.htm
