I have approximately 300 board feet of cherry, maple (some slightly curley, spalted, and wormy) and walnut boards that are 6 feet long x 7 inch to almost 14 inches wide. I purchased these boards at the D&D sawmill in North Carolina and brought back to Huntsville, Texas. I was going to resaw the boards and use for scroll saw projects. I sold my MM20 band saw and Woodmaster drum sander and now have no way to dimension them. They are all 1 inch thick and rough sawn to be planed and resawn. If anybody is interested, I am asking $4.00 BF for everything no matter the species. I cannot deliver. The lumber can be picked up in Huntsville, Texas. I am going to measure and calculate the BF of each species within the next few days. I don't have a home phone but can be reached on my cell at 936-355-7889. For Sale HAWK (RBI) Scroll Saw 226vs 26" throat with variable speed.

This saw is huge.

Everyone raves about them in reviews...

That's why I bought it, but I used it for about an hour and I don't like the blade clamping method.
It seems more complicated than it needs to be... maybe I'm just used to the way my old saw works.
I'm kind of particular and it just tends to frustrate me, so why put myself through it... I'll just sell it and use the money toward getting an excalibur 30".

So, for those of you who like the way the Hawks are set up, (and a lot of people do) this should work for you.

**** There is one issue****

I normally only cut thin veneer with thin blades, but just recently I tried cutting thicker stock with a bigger blande and I noticed that this saw has a flaw to it.

When cutting thicker stock, once the motor comes under load and starts to slow a little, the speed control becomes confused and over compensates. The motor kicks into high gear and starts running at a speed faster than you can normally get when you set the speed control on high.

I talked to the manufacturer about it and they said that the older units had AC motors and an AC controller that would sometimes have problems like that. He said that the newer units they sell have DC motors and control units.

The solution, according to them is to replace the old AC unit with a new DC motor and control unit. Installing the new parts is pretty simple from what they say, and if anyone needed help, they would walk them through it. (They seemed very helpful over the phone every time I’ve talked with them.)

The DC motor and control unit come as a pre-wired set for a little over $300. I am only asking $100 for the saw as-is… I believe that all of the mechanics, minus the powetrain, is easily worth that since everything else is in great working order.
It is a well built American made saw.
So, If anyone was to put a little work into this one, they could have a practically new Hawk scrollsaw with a DC powertrain for a little over $400 total investment. Not too bad when you figure a new one runs $1400.
